This week’s Stuff We Love is a bit different than the previous two. I wanted to not only highlight something we love, but also show that this portion of the blog doesn’t necessarily always find itself into technology specifically.
I don’t remember the 1st time I heard Bob Marley, but I do remember the 1st time I heard Bob Marley. I was a sophomore in high school and a friend of mine played me Buffalo Soldier.
Instantly I was hooked.
There was something about that sound, that mood, that combination of message with soul and sound. It was powerful, yet soothing. It was aggressive, yet timid.
Bob Marley’s Legend cd is definitely the most stolen item I’ve ever owned. No matter how many times I replaced that cd, it seemed to walk off again.
I never complained. I can understand wanting to hear Marley that bad and I was happy to oblige. It’s actually the only cd I’ve bought in the past several years.
If you fast forward many years through my engagement with my wife and you’ll find a woman who thought she got it, but didn’t. She would listen with me as we drove, cooked out, or sat in the pool, but would eventually tire of it and want something else.
This time fast forward to our honeymoon and you find her sitting with her feet dangling into the ocean and her bottom planted firmly in the sands of Ocho Rios, Jamaica. That’s when she got it.
I’m not sure if I’m sad it took her that long to fall into the trance of The Lion or jealous because when she did, she was in his home land.
Jamaica is that magical land where the world slows down and Bob Marley provides the soundtrack to it all.
Now we spend our free time missing Jamaica and blaring No Woman No Cry as loud as everyone else can stand it. We’re hoping that we will be able to book a destination wedding in Jamaica in the coming year because we really need an excuse to get back.
